Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation of the United Nations in which participants take on the roles of delegates representing assigned countries. They prepare their country’s position and then, during the conference, give speeches, negotiate, build coalitions and work together on resolutions addressing some of the world’s most important global challenges. Everything takes place in English and follows procedures modeled on international diplomacy.
In New York, you’ll meet more than 6,000 participants from over 70 countries around the world. Each delegate represents an assigned country and works within a committee on a specific international issue.
Before the conference begins, you’ll conduct research and prepare a Position Paper, which will receive individual feedback from the conference team. During the sessions, you’ll present your country’s position, negotiate with other delegates, find allies and work together on draft resolutions. Committees are led by experienced MUN experts from leading universities around the world.
One of the most unique aspects of the conference is its close connection to the real world of the United Nations.Participants work with UN materials and documents and may have the opportunity to interact with diplomats, NGO representatives and experts. Subject to availability, delegations may also take part in private meetings with UN ambassadors representing their assigned countries.
Over the years, the conference has welcomed guests at the very heart of global politics and diplomacy.

You don’t need to know diplomacy to get started
You don’t need to be interested in politics, understand how the UN works or have any previous Model United Nations experience. You’ll prepare for the conference before the trip – you’ll learn how MUN works, how to conduct research and write a Position Paper, and how to take part in debates and negotiations.
You don’t need to be a great public speaker
MUN is a place where you can build your confidence, strengthen your argumentation skills and learn how to speak in front of others.
What do you need?
01
English language skills
The conference is held in English, so you’ll need a level that allows you to communicate, prepare materials and take part in debates. You don’t need to speak perfect English.
02
Curiosity about the world
A desire to meet new people and discover different cultures and perspectives is far more important than any previous knowledge of international relations.
03
Openness to new experiences
Over the course of just a few days, you’ll find yourself in a completely new environment, surrounded by thousands of young people from around the world.
04
Ready for the adventure of a lifetime
New York City, an international conference, the world of diplomacy and people from over 70 countries – all you need is to be ready to make the most of this opportunity.
05
MUN isn’t just for future diplomats
The skills you develop during the conference will be valuable no matter whether you’re interested in business, economics, law, medicine, psychology, technology, marketing, engineering or entrepreneurship.
Have questions about your English skills or what to expect at the conference?
